from the VP Corner!Hi everyone! I have some news to share with our Maverick community; I am retiring as Vice Principal of Morris School at the end of June this year. I am very excited for the new challenges and learning that lie ahead of me but it is also hard to say goodbye to all of the students, parents and staff that I have worked with so closely over the years. I feel so privileged and honoured to have not only worked with such an amazing school community, but also to have been able to return to as an alumni to be a teacher in Early, Middle and Senior Years, a Resource teacher in the 7-12 areas, and lastly, a Vice Principal in my hometown. It is a great feeling to give back to the school that gave me so much as a student. And, what an adventure it has been! I have so many amazing memories including teaching children of former students, working beside former teachers as colleagues, drama productions and dinner theatres, Mavs Create Change cake walks and sundae sales, yoga & wellness fun, Mav Activity Day, volleyball, MB Theatre Centre groups, and yes, the list goes on and on. I have always loved what I do and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you all. I love what I do so… I can’t just walk away. My plans are to return to the school in the fall to continue to support our school by working part-time in the Student Services area (Resource) and where needed, but without my VP hat!! In the fall, I will be using a corner of Mrs. SKog’s room to hang my hat, so to speak, so come come by and say hi! A special thank you to Mr. Watson and Mrs. Skog, my “ Admin partners in crime” team who have made being an administrator so great ! Mrs. Skog and I have always had lots of fun together with students during our many years of working together- it has been a blast!! I wish her the very best as she takes on full time VP for a year. To the students I have worked with, especially these last few years, know that I will miss you all so very much and I wish you only the best in life! See you in the fall! fees deadline approachingThose parents whose child or children were in any of the following courses this year -- please check your KEV CASH ONLINE accounts or email Julie at [email protected] to see if you still owe for their fees. They have been doing experiments to see if adding corn syrup to bubble solution makes better bubbles, bubble gum races, opinion writing, reading stories about bubbles, speech bubble writing and lots of bubble blowing! We even had a special bubble snack! concert band on the road again! The Senior Concert Band spent the day with the Ecole Heritage Senior Band in St. Pierre this Friday! This is the second annual "Band Workshop Fun Day" these groups have had with one another. Our two school groups travelled to Edmonton on the band trip together in April, so it was an exciting day to reconnect, make music for and with each other, laugh, and build new relationships! grade 5/6s experience citizenship week!We also had our citizenship ceremony this week in honour of citizenship week (May 22-28). We learned about the importance of citizenship and what it means to be a Canadian citizen. Students broke into groups and each took a task to make our ceremony a success. We started with opening remarks, did the oath of citizenship, which the presenters memorized (very impressive) and then we heard a speech about what it means to be a Canadian citizen, sang the national anthem and had some closing remarks. To finish the ceremony Mrs. Siemens awarded each student with a citizenship certificate. spirit week a hit!We had pyjama day, teacher/student switch day, anything but a backpack day, colour day and superhero/villain day. The spirit was all over the school. Thank you to our Student Leadership Group for organizing the week. Way to Go, MAV's! celebrating arbor dayThanks to the efforts of many staff lead by the initiative of Mrs. Huska, our students were able to assist Mr. Dyck with planting some trees around the school yard. If you are at the east end of our school, you'll notice a number of new trees being planted. It was a timely exercise as Arbor Day is June 3rd. Thanks to fundraising lunches, craft sales, and a divisional grant, our school playground will soon becoming a nice place to be. Thank you to all who have contributed to make this happen! Way to Go, MAV's! the courts project thanks you! BBQ style! As the Red River Wellness Committee gets closer and closer to their fundraising goal of $283 195.00, we hosted a fundraising BBQ thanks to the tremendous opportunity provided to us by Sun Valley Co-op. Sun Valley Co-op offered to host a BBQ lunch for our school community this past Wednesday. To take full advantage of this opportunity, we also ran a raffle (thanks to Morris School Welding and Diane Alarie for their creative donations), and a sod-turning ceremony to commemorate the start of construction in early July. The lunch was topped off by great performances by the Senior Years' Jazz band (along special guest musicians Mrs. Zimmerman and alumnus Josh Nickel) as people enjoyed their lunch, some conversation, and some music. The committee wants to thank everyone, yet again, for their support. Our fundraising goal is at the home stretch as we are now under $20 000 away from reaching the final fundraising total to complete all phases of the project. There were lots of original and fun games created to test people's skill and/or luck. what a great week to be in kindergarten!!The Kindergarten classes enjoyed a fun-filled week this past week. It included games with our big buddies from Mr. Moore’s class, classroom visitors in the form of a lamb and some chicks and spirit week that included "dress up like a teacher, anything but a backpack, and superhero/villain" day. 2023-24 divisional calendarsummer job opportunity in morris!Spending the summer in Morris?
