Our school had the pleasure of hosting members of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Cadet corps, and Trooper Reynolds from the Fort Garry Horse reserves. Trooper Reynolds spoke about the 100th anniversary of Canada's Hundred Days and the Armistice and what it must have been like for the soldiers who served our country at the time. He also helped our students understand what it's like to currently serve our country in the Armed Forces. We would like to thank our Senior Concert Band students, led by Mrs. Penno, our community members for making our assembly a part of their day, and to our students for showing an amazing level of respect for the assembly and the Canadian men and women who have and continue to serve in the Armed Forces. We will remember them! Varsity Girls capture zone Iv titleCongratulations to the Varsity Girls' Volleyball team for capturing the Zone IV title with a victory over Carman. The girls will now prepare for a Provincial Championships qualifier process in the near future. Way to go, MAV's! Cookies for caring in support of Urijah DyckAs some of you have heard, one of our Kindergarten students, Urijah Dyck, has been diagnosed with leukaemia. While this is sad and serious news, you will be encouraged to learn that this is a very treatable illness. Urijah’s doctors are hopeful he will make a full recovery. Urijah is not able to attend school at this time but hopes to return later. Of course cancer is not contagious. Our guidance counsellors have made themselves available for students who are struggling with or have questions about Urijah’s recent diagnosis. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please call Mr. Watson if you have any questions or concerns. Almost immediately after hearing this news, we had a group of Grade 3/4 students approach the school to conduct a fundraiser to support Urijah’s family. “Cookies for Caring” has arrived on the scene with the goal of showing our school community’s support for Urijah and his family. The information below provides the details you would need to show your support, either as a baker of cookies or a purchaser. Way to Go, MAV's! coming Soon to Morris School...The sport of amateur freestyle wrestling will be introduced to Morris School in November. The school will offer a wrestling program to all students (K-12). Mr. Watson will act as coach. Wrestling is of the Amateur Freestyle variety. It is not WWE. You will not see turnbuckles, Stone Cold Stunners, etc. What you see at the Olympics is what we do at the school. Students wrestle other athletes of their own age and weight (within reason...usually in weight classes) Practices will take place for students in K-8 during the lunch hour timeframe. Senior Years' students will practice after or before school (yet to be determined). The school's wrestling team will participate in weekend tournaments at various locations throughout the province. Tournaments run from December to March. Interested students will be invited to an information meeting later in November, but we wanted to get the word out to all community members, especially parents of early years students because this will require permission forms, etc. Stay tuned for more information. Feel free to contact Mr. Watson if you have questions. His email address is [email protected] A week of fun...Thank you to all community members who made the past week a great time in our school.
