Congratulations Brayden! mav gear arrives on MondayJust in time for Christmas...our MAV gear will arrive on Monday. It requires a bit of time to sort and distribute, so we're hoping for that all gear will be in your hands by Tuesday at the end of the day. IF you don't want your student to see the gear (Christmas gift?), please let the school know as soon as possible as we will be giving it to them directly unless we hear something different. Don't be a close contact - wear your mask! When Public Health calls a school to notify them of a positive COVID-19 case, they are also looking for close contacts if the student or staff member with a positive test result was at school during their contagious period. When defining a close contact they describe it as someone who was not wearing a mask (or wearing it improperly) and within 2 metres of the person with a positive COVID-19 for 10 minutes or more cumulative in a day. So, the logical conclusion to limiting the number of close contacts is to wear our masks properly. It will save you and our families from the risk of catching COVID, the hassle of a dealing with Public Health as a close contact, and/or a 10-day self-isolation period. We have a large portion of our school who is doing an excellent job wearing their masks and abiding by the protocols our school has to live with and follow. We appreciate you being understanding of what needs to be done for us to keep our school open to our students. Thank you! However, as a staff, we are constantly reminding the remaining students to wear their masks or to wear them properly. We are reaching a point where something needs to change. Although mask wearing has been around for over a year, we've included an infographic to assist those who still struggle with wearing a mask. We are here to educate, but we also need those we are tasked to educate to be open to that education. We expect and thank you, in advance, for your support. ancient egypt in Mr. Stevenson's class!Grade 7/8S are studying Ancient Egypt in social studies. Mrs. Legary's recipe of the week!MOrris School families - We need your help!We are getting into cold and flu season and of course, we are still dealing with Covid in our communities. We know that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people can spread covid which can lead to severe consequences for our students, staff, friends and loved ones. To help our community area and students/staff stay healthy and continue with in school learning, we ask that you please screen your children, even the teenagers, every day. And, we kindly ask that you keep sick students home. See the chart and Southern Health Requirements as of Oct. 15 for more info on symptoms and next steps. If your children have to be home sick, please enter it into the Safe Arrival. You can email their teachers for work if needed or simply email or call the office and we can contact you to help with that. Work can be emailed, etc. Students who are attending school sick can spread illness to others and then those families in turn, are taking time off or getting their children tested. If we can help prevent some of that, that is a true act of kindness! IF you are unsure of next steps if your child is sick, please call Health Links: 1-888-315-9257 or 788-8200 OR the school to speak with Mike or Corinna in Administration. Her on court dominance helped the Mavericks win the Zone 4 championship, and the Provincial Qualifier tournament on November 20th. Amy is one of the most consistent servers, passers, and attackers on the Maverick team. She rarely ever makes an error, despite playing all the time, in very tough situations! She pushes her teammates hard during practice, but in a positive and motivational way. She is always willing to teach a teammate a new skill as well! Her high sport I.Q. is a big asset as well. Articles are essential because they can teach you about things that you don’t hear much about and you can also stay informed on the most recent news. These articles will be sharing information about things like endangered species, climate change, natural disasters, important events, etc. We will be posting a new article every two weeks about a new topic. We can also bring attention to matters that students want to speak out about that they are interested in. By making an article club, we can give them a chance to state those opinions. We also have a go fund charity for different causes. All the money will go to charities to help endangered species, world hunger, etc. As you can probably see from this article, each will have about 2-3 paragraphs, so it shouldn’t take very long to read. Take a few minutes of your time to read an article a week, and you might learn something new! We will have activities at the bottom or back of the article to sharpen your mind and keep you entertained. We highly encourage you to read the article before you do the “minigame.” a small game that will be something like sudoku or fun riddles. When the following story is released, there will be a small quiz about the article from the last week, and you could win a prize if you are the first to send in the correct answer from the game at: [email protected]. We started our article club because we want to hear what you want to learn about, whether it’s your favorite music artist, actor, etc. So feel free to send us your ideas! Health Protocols - Extra-curricular activitiesAs per the following letter sent to our school community on November 24, Monday is the first day where students who want to participate in extracurricular sports must have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or produce a recent (within 72 hours) negative test result prior to participating. The letter is as follows: Due to rising COVID-19 cases, increased community transmission and a growing strain on the healthcare system, Manitoba Health has announced new restrictions to help curb the spread of the virus in the fourth wave of the pandemic. As per Public Health, the following new order applies to all indoor recreational (extra-curricular) school sports effective Dec 6, 2021. Proof of at least one dose of vaccination or a recent (within 72 hours) negative test result will be required for 12 to 17 year olds for indoor recreational sports. There will be a grace period until Dec. 5 to allow individuals who are not yet fully immunized to comply, with the order to be in effect at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 6. Proof of vaccination is voluntary. Negative tests need to come from a participating pharmacy as provincial testing sites should only be accessed by symptomatic individuals or those who are required to take a PCR test by public health. The order applies to sports at public or independent school gymnasiums and other sporting facilities, sports with any portion played indoors (practice or competition), dance and martial arts. Excluded from this order are Physical Education classes and any other physical activity that is part of the instructional school day. As a school division, we recognize that these new restrictions will require parents/caregivers to make difficult decisions regarding their child's participation in extra-curricular sports. However, we have a responsibility to follow all public health orders to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Verification Process Red River Valley School Division will provide parents/caregivers with the opportunity to declare vaccination status for their children voluntarily. Vaccination status of your children can be verified by sending proof of immunization (either a QR code, copy of a shared health letter or photo of a vaccination card) by email to: [email protected] or via text to: (431) 350-0138. Please also indicate which school your child is attending. Proof of Vaccination guidelines: https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/prs/ Proof of one dose of vaccine will be the print out from Shared Health: https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/test-results/ Parents/Caregivers may choose to have their child tested if their child is unvaccinated or they decide not to disclose their child’s vaccination status. Testing must take place within 72 hours of the activity/event. As noted in the order, testing must be completed at a participating pharmacy. Fees will apply (approx. $20-$40), and parents/caregivers are fully responsible for payment to the service provider. Fee rates may vary between pharmacies. Please check with your child's school regarding the notification process for completed tests. We appreciate your cooperation, patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Our goal is to keep children in school, offering as many activities possible while following all public health orders. Sincerely, Brad Curtis COVID testing procedure for extracurricularsAs per the information above, students between the ages of 12 & 17 who do not have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine AND/OR who have not provided proof to the Red River Valley School Division as per the process above, will be required to submit a negative test results within 72 hours of a extracurricular event. For example, if a student has a basketball practice at 3:30 on a Monday, they need to produce proof of a negative result for a COVID-19 test that was administered between the previous Friday (3:30 pm or later) and the time they step on the court for practice on the Monday. In this scenario, If they practice again on Tuesday, a new negative test result on a test administered between Saturday @ 3:30 and the time the step on the court on Tuesday would be required.
