Pink Shirt Day - Wednesday, February 27Please join us on Wednesday, February 27th 2019 for Red Cross Pink Day by helping to raise awareness about bullying issues. Their flyer is below: Mavericks Athletics...Girls Basketball The Mavericks completed an exciting playoff run this week. On Tuesday the ladies defeated RVS 35-34 in dramatic fashion. The teams were tied after the first, and second quarters. RVS came out strong in the 3rd to take the lead, and we're still leading with just mere minutes left in the game. Cara (aka Captain Clutch) found another gear and converted two steals into baskets, including an 'and 1' play and sinking the foul shot for what would end up being the winning point. The Mavericks responded to their captain by picking it up on defense and preventing RVS from scoring for the remaining 45 seconds. The team advanced to the Zone IV finals against the Carman Cougars on Thursday. Unfortunately, the Cougars proved to be too strong on the day, and the Mavericks fell short, losing 36-49 despite outscoring Carman 16-11 in the fourth quarter. Big performances from Holly, who added 10 points all in the second half, and Molly who spent most the game shutting down the Cougar's leading scoring. On behalf of the coaching staff, we'd like to thank graduating players Renee and Wynn for their continued dedication to the team. Your resiliency and perseverance made you fierce opponents, but your positive attitudes and kindness made you amazing teammates. We are proud to have you represent our team, school, and community. With all but two players returning for next season, it's time to break out your sunglasses because the future looks bright for this team! At the halfway point our boys were up by 2 points - led by Zach Norris who made eight 3-pointers in the first half! The team played hard and stuck together, but weren't able to get the win. Nonetheless, a valiant effort from our Mavericks as their improved play really gave Carman something to think about. Next week the boys practice Tuesday and Thursday, with a playoff game the following Monday.
