Grade 10 student, Eli Jashyn, fought a courageous battle with cancer. His battle took multiple turns but on Tuesday, as per the post on Team Eli's social media page, "Eli needs to rest." This news affected our school greatly as we will miss Eli for so many reasons. His consistent smile, his willingness to get involved in positive experiences at the school, and his care for others are just a few attributes this writer will remember about the young Mr. Jashyn. He is forever a Maverick to all of us and will be missed. Eli's memorial service will be held at the Morris Multiplex on Saturday, October 22nd at 2 pm. As per Team Eli's post..."He never liked to dress up- hoodies and track pants were more his style. On Saturday, Eli would want everyone to be comfortable- to that end, we invite you to wear your coziest hoodie or whatever you feel comfortable wearing." There has been a table set up just outside the front office. It has a book for students, staff, and school community members to send notes to the Jashyn family. There are also recipe card-like stationary available for people to write their fond memories of Eli. The book and the messages will be given to the Jashyn family at the end of this week. We want to thank the students, staff, and the division's Crisis Response team for helping us and each other this week. The support was noticed and appreciated. We understand this week's news brings forth a great deal for a number of our community members. We understand, also, that people will grieve or have received this news in a variety of ways. That will also be expressed in a variety of ways as well. We encourage our school community to respect each other and provide each other with some grace for a bit of time while we work through this. If you see someone struggling, please reach out to an adult in the building. We will do our best to support them. more supports...For those students who are struggling outside of school hours or prefer to speak with people outside of our school community, Ms. Jill Siemens has provided some additional resources for our families (thank you, Jill)...
