friendly reminder! With every school year, there are new families in our school community or families who need to be reminded. That is understandable. Here is one of those reminders. When dropping off or picking up your students, please do not stop or park any further east than the end of our school building. This allows the turn-around circle at the far east end of Toronto Avenue to be left clear for all vehicles to have enough space to turn around. The drop-off and pick-up times at school can be busy, so your cooperation is appreciated. This also applies to the bus loop in the back of our school off Highway #23. Please do not pull into this part of the school. Thank you! attention: parents of grade 12 studentsWe will host our first Grad Meeting of the year on Wednesday, November 1st @ 6:30 p.m. in the Band Room. There are many things to discuss and questions to answer, so please plan on having at least one parent/guardian per graduate at the meeting. appropriate clothing is a must! With the snow and colder temperatures bursting the bubble of our great fall weather, we are strongly encouraging our students to dress for this quick change. Students from K-6 will be expected to be outside for recess; Grades 7-12 Phys. Ed. classes could make use of the outdoors for their classes. These are just two valid reasons for dressing appropriately for the weather. Donation Request We are also asking families to consider donating gently used winter gear to our school. Those donated items will be used by students in our school who don't have appropriate clothing. Thank you, again, for making our school a better (and warmer) place! spirit week - thanks student leadership!welding shop is in tune with the season! The grade 10 welding class has just finished the unit on oxy-acetylene gas fusion welding and now they get to put their new skills to use building a pumpkin. The letter below was sent home to families to provide more information on the process. If you do not want your student participating in the screening, please complete the Opt-Out form and return it to your student's homeroom teacher. Present research confirms the importance of vision and eye health on students’ learning. According to statistics provided by the Canadian Association of Optometrists, four out of every ten school-aged children have a vision problem that may negatively affect learning. Children who cannot see the board clearly, focus on a picture, or follow words in a book may not be able to reach their full potential. Manitoba Health covers the cost of children’s comprehensive eye examinations, therefore all families can access this free service. If you don’t currently have a family optometrist, you can find one by going to the MAO website at http://optometrists.mb.ca/find-an-optometrist.cfm and selecting Find an Optometrist, or call the Manitoba Association of Optometrists @ 204-943-9811. maverick athletic updateVolleyball Our Junior Varsity Boys went undefeated in a busy week of league play as they defeated DCS and Carman in straight sets and spotted St. Paul's one set before storming back and taking 3 straight. Happy Thanksgiving! lots to be grateful for!As the temperatures dip and the leaves start to turn & fall, we have many things to be grateful for at Morris School. Our students, their families and our staff make a community that accomplishes many things every day, giving us a sense that Morris School is bigger than ourselves. The friends and classmates our students have accumulated throughout the years bring colour and fun to their days. Our many sports and clubs give our students a chance to intersect between passions and academia as well as learn how to be a team player. Our teachers and staff inspire students and improve the quality of their lives. Morris School provides a quality education that many in the world would be lining up to receive. Research shows that training our brains to be grateful on a daily basis allows us to lead a happier and healthier life. The benefits include all the items listed below as well as reducing anxiety and other negative emotions. The benefits of gratitude are numerous and well-studied. The 'staff' at the Morris School blog encourages all of our readers to spend a moment every day practicing gratitude. Our world is a better place; our school is a better school if the people inside of it practice gratitude. We have a lot to be grateful for, so spend a few minutes today thinking of just three of those things. You may also want to express your gratitude if it is a person or people you have in your life that makes your life better. Thank you, Mavericks!
