The fun continues next week with Days 3 through 7. As per any type of activities we run at the school, student participation is encouraged but optional. Manitoba Theatre for Young PeopleThe Manitoba Theatre for Young People were at our school today for two reasons. The first was to perform for our Grades 7-12 students. The performance, Still/Falling, was about Nina. Nina has a great life. She loves her family, she does well in school, and her friends are awesome. But suddenly Nina starts feeling… off, and she finds herself slipping into a dark reality she cannot understand, let alone articulate to the people around her. Still/Falling follows Nina as she tries to come to terms with what it means to struggle with anxiety and depression, and to rise above it with as much strength, and as few scars, as possible. A realistic, honest and bitingly funny look at the difference between ‘teen angst’ and mental illness and the ways vulnerable kids can start to find their way out of the dark. The second reason for the MTYP visit was to conduct a writer's workshop with our Grade 9 students. We appreciate their time today and the school thanks Mrs. Laurie Edel for organizing these two events! Mehgan's Musings...Mehgan Smith, the AFM counsellor for RRVSD, is hoping to submit educational and informational blog entries on a fairly regular basis.
