We focused our theme on polar bears this year and they turned out great! grad prom fundraiserGrad Convocation fundraisergrade 7/8 curlers hit the ice!On Thursday, Feb. 16, two strong teams represented Morris at the annual grade 7/8 divisional bonspiel, hosted by Morris Curling Club. In a field of 16 teams, the Mavs played very well and both teams made the playoffs, with Morris 1 falling just short in the final game to earn 2nd place overall. Way to go! trivia night was a hit!Maddox’s trivia night fundraiser was a huge success! The community really showed up to support this family. There were 18 teams registered of 6-8 people with 10 rounds of trivia around subjects that Maddox loves (turtles, Lego, videogames etc.). The silent auction was a huge success with over 25 normal prizes and 8 grand prizes. A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this event possible and a special shout out to Megan Thiessen, Brenda Lehman, Melinda B, Julie Huska and Les Dyck. Maddox will be going for his first set of tests next weekend, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. mavericks' talent showcased!Congratulations to all of the performers who showed off their talents at the Entertainment & Dessert Night band fundraiser this past Wednesday. From dancing, to singing, to ventriloquism and more, we have some incredibly talented students here at Morris School! Thank you to all of the parent and student volunteers for their time and contributions in making the event possible, and thank you to all who came out to support the students and the music program! grade 5/6 visit aviation museumOn Thursday, Feb. 23, the 5/6 students traveled to the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada to learn about flying and the history of air travel in Canada. At the end, they had the opportunity to design and build miniature planes. mavericks athletic updateBasketball Our Varsity basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end this past week. Meanwhile our JV boys beat Elm Creek to earn a spot in the Zone Final on Tuesday in Rosenort (game time 7:30). Both 7/8 teams enter playoffs this Wednesday, the girls head to Oak Bluff while the Boys are off to St. Malo. Reminder Basketball players to hand in your jerseys to your coaches. Hockey The Mavericks made quick work of the Garden Valley Collegiate Zodiacs in the first round of their Zone IV playoffs, winning two straight (3-1 in Morris; 5-2 in Winkler). The Mavericks now face the Morden Thunder is a much anticipated semi-final round. Game 1 goes in Morden (Huron Windows Arena) on February 27th at 8 pm. Game 2 will be in Morris on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30. Game 3, if needed, will be held in Morden (Co-op Arena) on Saturday, March 4th at 8:30 pm. Wrestling Our Mavericks had the opportunity to wrestle in two tournaments over the past two weekends. The long weekend saw 11 Mavericks travel to Niverville to take on all-comers! Congratulations to James C, Samantha S, and Alexis W for capturing gold medals, Emma K, Dallas P, and Christoph S-H for earning silver medals, and Hannah K for wrestling hard for a bronze. This past weekend, five Mavericks wrestled at the St. Paul's High School tournament. Congratulations to Samantha S for earning her second gold medal in as many weekends. Also capturing gold as a result of two great matches was Katie McLachlan! James C and Emma K earned silver medals. Hannah K earned another bronze medal for her performance! The wrestlers finish up their season this upcoming weekend at Provincials. The tournament will be hosted at the Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg on Saturday, March 4th. Players from Morris school include: Jillian Hamblin, Mila Berg, Violet Collette, Codie Recksiedler, Kaydence Ewbank, Madison Saurette, Emma Peters and Piper Peters. Players from St Jean, Emerson and Dominion City include: Aliveah Wiebe, Piper Rodewald and Harper Cote. Congrats to Jillian Hamblin, Violet Collette, Madison Saurette and Codie Recksiedeler on earning the Player of the Game awards, as well to Kaydence Ewbank for being the tournaments MVP! The season included 8 teams from Red River, St. Adolphe, Macdonald, Portage, Stonewall, Springfield 1, Springfield 2, St. Eustache. The girls ended their regular season undefeated with stats of 13 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie, they continued this streak throughout the weekend winning all 4 games!
