a great start! Thank you community membersThe first week of the 2022-23 school year at Morris School is in the books! We would like to take the time to thank all Morris School community members for helping the first week go well. We appreciate seeing all the students in their classes on the first day. The very large majority of classes had all their students in class and on time. Our parents did a great job of communicating when they had questions or something they felt our staff needed to know. For those of you who drop off & pick up your students, thank you for not using the bus loop in the back of the school or parking in the circle turnaround at the very end of Toronto Avenue East. We appreciate that! A big thank you to our staff for handling any adjustments that were needed to be made. The first week of school can be stressful enough (for students & staff), so your ability to roll with some of these changes were appreciated. We look forward to our second week. We would encourage all community members to reach out the school if you have questions. If it is a question about classroom activities, please reach out to the teacher first. If it is administrative in nature (forms, applications, fees, etc), please ask the front office staff. If you're not sure who to direct your question/comment to, please call the office or speak directly with Mr. Watson. K-8 FAMILIES - STRONG BEGINNINGS (SIGN UP ONLINE)Strong Beginnings is a MANDATORY assessment that occurs early in September for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. On Friday, September 16 and Monday, September 19, children will attend school by appointment for approximately 60 minutes to participate in assessment activities. Kindergarten students are asked to book a 30 minute appointment during one of the time slots on Monday, September 19 (No appointments available on September 17). The appointments on these days replace regular classes..so NO classes for Grades K-8 students on Friday or Monday. Grades 9-12 students...we'll see you at school! A Strong Beginnings session is an opportunity for teachers to extend and consolidate their understanding of each child in order to plan for instruction. This, in turn, will effectively address unique learning needs as early as possible in the new school year. All Grades K-8 students need to be registered for Strong Beginnings by Thursday, September 15th. We book online using our Conference Manager software. If you do not have a Conference Manager account, please access the site via our school's website or by clicking here. contact information changesIn order to receive all the information you require to be an active member of our school community, we need to be sure your contact information is up-to-date. If you've moved to another residence, changed (or dropped) a phone number or have a new email address, please let Ms. Denny know in the office as soon as possible. Her email is [email protected]. We appreciate being kept in the loop on the above changes. Thank you, in advance, for helping us out. At Morris School, one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely at school each and every day. To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure, we are using a student absence reporting system called SafeArrival. This system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods:
***A New Text Option is available for SafeArrival. There are directions to sign up in link to the pdf below: SMSTextOpRRVSD.pdf In addition, we will use the SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents whose child is absent when the absence was not reported in advance. The automated notification system will attempt to contact parents at multiple contact points until a reason is submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, office staff will follow up. If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app, you will NOT receive these notifications. Please report absences in advance using SafeArrival instead of sending notes or calling/emailing the school. Staff will being using the SafeArrival notifications to let you know if your student is absent (when you haven’t reported the absence in advance). If you have children attending other schools, please continue to report absences using the existing procedures for those schools. Comments are closed.
