The week was filled with spirit! Thanks to the work and organizational skills of our student leadership team, facilitated by Mrs. Laurie Edel, our school has had a wonderful spirit week. The spirit week included five different themed days (Halloween was in there), and a movie night for K-8 students. Here's a few examples of the fun we had this week! Way to Go, MAV's! pumpkins aaaaawwwwwaaaaayyyyy! The Grade 3/4 classes are learning about gravitational pull and with the help of Mr Dyck they timed how fast gravity pulled the pumpkins to the ground. Our students learned that the weight of an object affects the gravitational pull. The biggest pumpkin fell to the ground the fastest. We had a great time and want to thank Mr Dyck for dropping the pumpkins. outdoor courts - stocking stuffer idea?!?Seeing as the construction portion of the Outdoor Courts Project at Morris School has been delayed until the summer of 2023, it gives the project committee more time to fundraise to ensure every penny of the project is secured before a shovel goes in the ground. Next up on the fundraising calendar is a Cash Calendar. The committee is selling cash calendar tickets from November 1st to December 31st with $1,000 in cash prizes to be won. The tickets are $10 each and each ticket can win multiple times. Each day in the month of January, we will draw a winning ticket. That ticket will then go back into the draw box for another chance to win. Daily Draws - Multiple Changes to Win. It's the perfect stocking stuffer for this Christmas. You can buy tickets through one of our committee members Susan Chartier, Gilles Buisson, Brendan Heppner, Arien Peterson, Fred Kelesnik and Mike Watson (and Julie Huska) or by texting 204-746-4907. E-transfer options are available by sending the $10 fee to the committee's email address ([email protected]). Thank you, in advance, for continuing to support this project. music/band program's poinsettia fundraiserA new fundraiser has now started in the music program at Morris School! We are getting in the festive spirit with a local Bloomin’ Scents Poinsettia Fundraiser. Forms and $ are due on Wednesday, November 16th. Kindergarten to Grade 5 Students By participating in this fundraiser, you will be helping provide your K-5 child(ren) and the students at Morris School with further musical opportunities, like playing ukuleles, xylophones, drums, bass, guitar, percussion, and other instruments, etc. We encourage each student to try and sell at least one poinsettia! Grade 9-12 Concert Band Students All funds raised by each student will go directly towards their OWN individual trip fees for our Edmonton Band Trip in the Spring. Participation is optional for high school students, but strongly encouraged as this is a very popular and high profit fundraiser! Our existing coat of arms is closely modeled after that of the United Kingdom. The countries that are specifically represented on it are: England, Ireland, Scotland, and France. While these are certainly central to Canada's colonial history, this coat of arms does not reflect Canada's diversity. Specifically, it doesn't represent the many cultural backgrounds that make up Canada. Also, it does not represent Indigenous peoples and their long history on Turtle Island. Here is a new coat of arms that was created by grade 9 student Jiwon Moon. The globe set into the maple leaf demonstrates that people from all across the globe make up the citizenry of Canada. The wing represents the Indigenous peoples of Canada and is rendered using colours from the Medicine Wheel. The flowers at the bottom represent the national flowers of the founding nations of Canada (UK countries,) and the fluer-de-lis represents France. What other symbols of Canada can you find? mavericks attend Canadian University FairThirty-four (34) Mavericks from Grades 10-12 attended the Canadian University fair on Thursday, November 3.
