Specifically, what to include in a survival kit, and how to efficiently and safely start a fire in nature. The first fire challenge was initiated by the boys in class, who challenged the group of girls to see who could get a fire started first. The girls quickly got their group fire started, while the boys attempt went 'up in smoke!' The next challenge was for each individual student to start their own fire and get it burning hot enough to boil a pot of water. Here are some action pictures of the fires and student survival kits! fishing club continues to meetThe Mavericks Fishing Club has met every Wednesday (unless there is a snow-day) since mid-December. The club has learned about; fish species in Manitoba, fish anatomy, knot tying techniques, types of fishing lures and jigs, and parts of a fishing rod and fishing reel. We have also planned out our upcoming Mavericks Ice Fishing Derby where students will spend 8 am - 12:30 pm on the Red River in Morris, putting all of their skills and knowledge to practice, and trying to catch some fish! If you or your company is interested in being a sponsor of the fishing derby and helping us offset the costs of the derby, this would be so appreciated!
