Entertainment & Dessert Night - a huge hit!Our Concert Band students hosted an Entertainment and Dessert night this past Wednesday. The audience packed the theatre in anticipation of some entertaining performances and tasty desserts. We believe both goals were met! The Band trip fundraiser allowed our Morris School students to showcase their talents, bring our school community together, and raise some funds for the Concert Band's trip to Moose Jaw in May. The school would like to thank our parents who supplied the delicious desserts, the concert band students for setting up, serving, and cleaning up after the event, Mr. Dyck & Mr. Zinn for overseeing the set up and clean up, our local businesses for donating items for the silent auction prizes, and for the community members who purchased tickets to watch the show! We also thank the performers for having the courage to showcase their talents during the evening. Without you, we wouldn't have a show. Finally, we thank Ms. Demond for orchestrating such a great event for our school. She has definitely brought a great deal of positivity and energy to our band program. We appreciate it. Way to go, MAV's!! A tribute to Mr. MaddocksMr. Maddocks, our former Senior Years Art teacher who passed away in January, has been honoured by the Festival du Voyageur. Mr. Maddocks was part-time talented Morris School Art Teacher and part-time entrepreneur, graphic artist, professional photographer. One of his clients was the Festival du Voyageur. Mr. Maddocks was also a participant in the Festival as a snow sculptor. He was treasured by the Festival as much as he was at Morris School. We miss him dearly, but we appreciate the Festival paying tribute Mr. Maddocks in such a tasteful manner and creative way. It fit Mr. Maddocks to a "T!" Thank you to Mrs. Christelle Edel for capturing the tribute. kindergarten registration continues...Kindergarten registration packages available for the 2020-2021 school year. One day our temperatures can reach close to zero and the next day, we have somewhere between a -35 to -40 wind chill factor. We would encourage all of our staff and students to dress appropriately for the weather. We had one of our students learn the hard way this week and they have allowed us to tell their story with the hope of helping other students. Our Morris School student walked to school this past week during one of the colder days. They had some exposed skin between the bottom of their pant legs and the top of their shoes/socks. The walk to school for this student was approximately 15 minutes. So...it doesn't take long for frostbite to occur. Please cover up and wear layers to ensure you are ready for changes in weather than can occur this time of the year. tasty way to remember the phases of the moonOur Grade 5/6’s used Oreo cookies to illustrate the phases of the moon. A tasty learning session! collections help with connections in math!Grade 3-4s were busy “counting collections” this week. This practises one to one counting, organizing numbers to easily show the amount, and skip counting. At the same time it helps build number sense. Mrs. Johnston's class was fully engaged in this activity! Way to go, MAV's! maverick athletics updateOur Maverick Varsity Girls Basketball team hosted their annual tournament this past weekend.
