Thanks to Ms. K's class for all the work they put in to make the eclipse memorable. Grade 10 Geography students mine with cookiesThe Grade 10 Geography class did some cookie mining this week. The students learned about the costs involved the mining as well as the importance of taking care of our environment while mining. regional connections makes strides at schoolRegional Connections has been using Morris School to help our community members over the past few weeks. "Conversation Circles," orchestrated by Destiny Klassen and assisted by several community volunteers, practices English skills and connects each week. The group is progressing well as they become more comfortable with our community. Somewhere between 3 and 14 people attend. During the past few weeks, it has been Ramadan which means many clients are not able to attend and they've had smaller groups. The people have appreciated having a space to practice English skills and connect each week. We are happy to contribute as a school by providing the space for these types of activities to occur. kitchen project fundraiser - get your tickets! The school's Kitchen Renovation Project is working in conjunction with the upcoming Morris & Area Recreation's Spring Fling Vendor & Craft Market (April 27 - Morris Multiplex) to run a Wine Raffle and 50/50 Draw. With the postponement of the Manitoba Robot Games, this should be our last match of the season. Students are working hard printing parts for their robots in the lead up, and a big congratulations to Ian Wiebe and Natalie Wiebe, the last two winners of our new lightning round-robin tournaments. ice cream fundraiser - april 19th5/6s learn from wiseOn Thursday, April 11, the 5/6 classes hosted instructors from the WISE program at the University of Manitoba. One workshop taught students about traditional indigenous structures and then provided an opportunity to design/build small models. Another workshop was a biology lesson about the heart, including the dissection of a real pig heart. It was a great hands-on learning experience! We are grateful to the WISE instructors and the program for attending our school and providing us with this experience. Thank you to those who arranged the presentation as well. badminton smashes it in st. jean-baptiste!The varsity badminton team travelled all the way to St. Jean for a tournament this week. It was another great learning experience for the team. Georson Labauza made the playoffs in boys singles and the mixed teams of Brooklyn Williamson & Garland Labauza and Molly & Jax Sanders also made playoffs. The sister-brother Sanders duo made it the farthest into the playoffs, losing in the semi-finals. Next week the JV team participate in 2 tournaments, the first of which is in St. Jean on Wednesday and the second is in Carman on Thursday. girls flag football continue to competeOur girls' hopped on the bus again this past Wednesday and headed into Winnipeg for two games against those big bad schools in Winnipeg!! First up was the Miles Mac Buckeyes. A back-and-forth affair was capped off by a clutch touchdown and 1-point conversion to elevate the Mavericks to victory 19-12. The next game against the Murdoch Mackay Clansmen was a tight defensive battle. Our Mavericks' first offensive series resulted in a touchdown and that was enough for our defence. Mavericks 7; Clansmen 0. The two wins put the Mavericks in a tie for first place in the Zach Collaros division of the Blue Bombers High School Girls Flag Football League. The girls play two more games this Wednesday against what appears to be our toughest test yet (schedule below). Our girls will continue to improve, learn the game, and compete in every play! mcdonald's fundraiser - april 25thThe Schoolyard Improvement Committee will be holding a McDonald's lunch on April 25th.
