Lest we forget...Morris School would like to thank those within our community who assisted in our most recent Remembrance Day service. We appreciate your time as we commemorated those who have and continue to serve to protect our freedoms. This includes those students who have chosen to serve as a part of the cadet corps. Our students have learned a great deal from you as well as from working this past week on Remembrance Day pieces. This cross curricular set of assignments displayed below. Parent-Teacher conference sign up startsParent Teacher conferences are schedules for the evening of Thursday, November 21st and the morning of Friday, November 22nd. Online booking appointments for our upcoming conferences will open Thursday, November 14th at 8 am. The booking software closes on Wednesday, November 20th at noon. For our K-8 families, this is the same software you used to book the Strong Beginnings sessions. Due to the large number of Kindergarten students this year, Mrs. Roberge has her own conference sessions set up online. If you are booking an appointment to see her, please use the Kindergarten Thursday night session or the Kindergarten Friday Morning session to do so. If a teacher is fully booked and unavailable, please contact the teacher directly to arrange a meeting outside of the regular parent-teacher meeting times. Grades 7-12 Students: Mav Group MeetingOur Grade 7-12 students will be meeting in their Mav Group's tomorrow. Mav Groups have been set up to strengthen our school community as well as improve student voice. This month's topic is cell phone use in schools. Our current policy is requiring some updating. We would appreciate the voice of those we serve. That voice has a chance tomorrow morning. We look forward to seeing all students take the opportunity to update our policies so they are reasonable and reflect a current practice that will help our students learn. varsity volleyball teams do a double take!!This past week, the varsity volleyball teams capped off a great regular season to take both AA Zone IV titles. The boys earned their first banner since the 2009 season by beating RVS in four sets. The #8 provincially ranked girls team continued to excel within their zone play to beat a tough St. Paul's Collegiate team. Congratulations to the coaches and our student-athletes for their well earned victories. Good luck to both teams as they head to their respective provincial qualifying games. We also wish the JV teams the best of luck as they travel Wednesday to their respective Zone IV Championship tournaments. Go MAV's Go! Picture retakes - Wednesday, November 13For those students who missed the first picture day or would like a second chance to get the best version of their school photo, Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, November 13. You must sign up in the office before Wednesday. New student group set up to lead and serveOver thirty Grade 5/6 students have joined the Conflict Resolution Officer (CRO) team. These students are volunteering to make a difference in the playground during recess. The team will be trained to identify and solve conflicts that can occur in our school grounds. The CRO's will assist with reminding students of rules, helping students who may have a conflict with other students, officiate a soccer game, and generally assist our adults make our student experience a positive one during their recess time. The group will be organized by Mr. Watson and the Grade 5/6 teachers. Seven different teams have been set up to cover all recesses (am, lunch, and pm recesses). The students will be identified as CRO's by their safety vests. The students have been introduced to the K-6 student body. During this introduction, we have asked all K-6 students to be their best in the playground and treat the CRO's with respect during their interactions. The goals of this endeavour is to assist our students solve their own issues with possible assistance of their peers, to empower our Grade 5/6 students to help make our school community better and to gain some leadership skills, and to improve the safety of our playground by increasing the number of people looking out for the safety of our students. Milk program surveyThe K-6 students have been involved in the Milk Program in the past. The program is offered by the Dairy Farmers of Manitoba.
