Ryan, a Grade 6 Morris Student, competing in the Classical Guitar portion of the Winnipeg Music Festival and earned a gold medal. Ryan combines his musical talent with his love for school and as well as his contribution to our inaugural NFL/CFL flag football team. We congratulate our well rounded student, Ryan, for his performance. Class of 2019 have a favour to askEvery year the graduating class puts on a raffle fundraiser to help cover the cost of the ceremony and prom. Morris school attends career symposiumThis past Tuesday, a bus load of Morris School students attended the Rotary Career Symposium at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. According to the Rotary Career Symposium website, the symposium was created to showcase leading industries, employment and educational opportunities in Manitoba and beyond, the Rotary Career Symposium is a unique event to help discover your career possibilities! From Aerospace to Law, Trades to Government, Hospitality to Technology, more than 185 Exhibit booths and 30 speaker sessions are included in the two-day event. Featuring both business and educational leaders to help you to update your career profile, it’s the largest and most comprehensive event of its kind in Canada. Early reviews from the Morris School students suggest the Symposium accomplished that goal. Thank you to Mrs. Edel for accompanying the students and do the work, behind the scenes, to ensure the students could attend this event. Maverick Athletics updateBadminton Badminton practices have begun, but you still time to join! Grade 7/8’s practice Mondays and Wednesdays after school (3:30 start) Grade 9-12's practice Tuesdays and Thursdays after school Friday at lunch is reserved for Grades 7-12 students to scrimmage. See Mrs. K if you have any questions. Basketball Those basketball student-athletes who have not returned their clean jerseys are asked to do so before you leave for spring break. Track & Field Our Track & Field team will be having an informational meeting on Thursday this week (March 21) for all Grade 7-12 students who are interested in hearing more about the Maverick Track & Field program. The meeting will take place at Noon (12:00) in Mr. Scott Stevenson's room. Spring Break Camps Please see Mrs. K if you are interested in attending a volleyball or curling camp over spring break. Wrestling The inaugural season for our Maverick wrestling program wrapped up this weekend at West Kildonan Collegiate. The 2019 Provincial Championships started on Friday with our U10 and U13 wrestlers. The older group (U16 and U19) of Mavericks competed Saturday. As we've come accustomed to, the Mavericks continued to improve and bring home some hardware. Alexis W and Kaylee B are provincial champions in their respective weight classes. Rocky T. and Damian E-S were silver medalists. Alesei B, Ethan F, Tyson F, Emma K, Lucas T-D, Cody D, and Abigail M finished the day earning bronze medals. Way to go, MAV's! Cotton Candy Sale/FundraiserWith the cancellation of the Grade 5/6 Floor Hockey Tournament this past Friday, someone left the Cotton Candy machine on! The plan was to sell the Cotton Candy in the canteen on Friday with the goal or raising money for the upcoming Grade 5/6 field trips. A letter will be sent out to parents to pre-order their cotton candy for delivery on Friday, March 22.
