Morris Timber Mart to the rescue!!We received an early Christmas present this week! Morris Timber Mart and the Peters family donated all the supplies needed to complete our new Gaga Ball pit. Thank you to Fred, Heather, and Steve Peters for your support. Our school community is better because of you. We can’t forget the carpentry talents of Mr. Jack Wiebe, Nick Dueck, and Pat Heinrichs. Gratitude fills our school!! our gratitude overflows - Access Credit UnionWe received a great surprise this week when we were contacted by Mr. Dennis Matthies, Retail Branch Manager for Access Credit Union. He had heard our Breakfast Club could use a "bit of a boost." Mr. Matthies and the Access Credit Union has "boosted" our ability to assist our students in starting their day the right way with a $2 000 donation in support of our Breakfast Club initiative. As the title suggests, Morris School's gratitude is overflowing with the continued support from our community. Thank you...thank you...THANK. YOU! 12 days of christmas continue...Mavericks help out at breakfast with santaMembers of our school concert band and our Mavericks Hockey team assist at the annual Breakfast with Santa event recently. Ms. Gauthier, the event coordinator sent along this lovely message: I wanted to personally thank you both for volunteering the students at the Breakfast with Santa Fundraiser. The hockey team did an amazing job and helped us a great deal. The Band was a HUGE hit and sounded amazing. Way to go, MAV's!! Senior concert band goes audience searchingSome of our Senior Years Concert Band students were in front of an appreciative audience this morning at the Red River Valley Lodge. Morris School is happy to perform out in the community and connecting our youth with others. We thank Ms. Demond and her students for reaching out into the community and putting their talents to good use. Morris Students assist food bankSome our Morris School students assisted Mr. Jack Wiebe load approximately $11 000 worth of groceries with Mr. Berezowski this past Thursday and then on Friday a group of them went back and helped pack the Christmas hampers. We appreciate their sense of community. Way to go, MAV's! maverick curlers earn the #1 zone SeedThe Maverick Curling team punched their ticket to the Zone IV Championships by earning the #1 seed at their recent zone qualifying meet. Congratulations to curlers (from left to right) Andrew Penner, Adam Friesen, Avery Skög, and Zach Norris. Way to go, MAV’s! Wanted: Club Volleyball Playerswrestlers start their seasonThe Maverick Wrestling team kicked off their second season of competition this past weekend at Elmwood High School in Winnipeg. A total of nine Mavericks wrestled. To give you some perspective, Morris was represented by one (not a typo) wrestler at the same tournament last year. If the author's math is correct, that's a 900% growth in the Maverick program. A great thing! Our Junior Mav's kicked off the day with Emma Knelson taking home a gold medal. Alexis Wiebe earned a silver medal. Cody Dueck and Hannah Klassen were bronze medallists. Tristan McLachlin finished 4th and Tyson Funk finished 5th in two very tough weight classes. Later on in the day, our Senior Mavericks wrestled tough. Roy Tambal, new to the sport of wrestling, won all three of three of his matches to earn a gold medal. Katie McLachlin went 2 & 1 on the day on her way to a silver medal performance. Abigail McGuffin also went 2 & 1, but a funky three-way tie earned her a bronze medal. What day is a great day to be a Maverick Wrestler? Everyday!! 8/1/2022 11:21:50 pm
