Miigwech Cookem Daisey!Ms. Epler’s Grade 7/8 class and Ms. Kulbaba's 5/6 class welcomed Cookem Daisey to their classroom on Tuesday for an enlightening and thought-provoking teaching session. With a deep understanding of Truth and Reconciliation. Cookem Daisey guided our students through a meaningful discussion intertwined with the history of her family and Indigenous people in Canada. Through engaging storytelling and class discussions, Cookem Daisey emphasized the importance of acknowledging and addressing the injustices faced by Indigenous communities, past and present. She also spoke about the significance of treating others with respect and fostering a sense of unity among all. It was a powerful teaching in empathy, cultural appreciation and the ongoing journey towards healing and reconciliation. A Day in the Life of an ArchaeologistIn a captivating journey through time, Miss Epler’s Grade 7/8 class embarked on a thrilling archaeological adventure by crafting their own fossils! With a touch of creativity, students transformed a simple salt dough recipe into imprints of “ancient” artifacts. As young paleontologists, we expanded our artifacts into storytelling – inventing intriguing narratives that revealed the historical significance of our finds. This engaging activity allowed students to use their critical thinking skills and understand the important role that archaeology plays in unravelling the mysteries of our past. The pumpkin store is open for businessThe Pumpkin Store opened up this week in the Kindergarten room! This store will be shared through the K-2 classrooms and themes will change monthly. Students are using both literacy and math at the store. Some things they are doing are; reading the menu, counting money, using shapes and many other things. mavericks athletic updateCross Country Morris School had eight athletes compete at our zone IV cross country meet this past Wednesday at St. Malo Provincial Park over the 4 km course. Our Varsity Girls team of Molly, Kia, Hana, and Erin put in a strong showing for their first-ever cross-country meet. Our Junior Varsity Boys team included Jax, Zach, Hassaan, and Tristan who finished second in their race. Soccer Our Girls' Soccer team had another strong showing this week with a victory over RVS. They head to RVS for the Zone Final next Monday (game time 4:30). Good Luck Mavs! Our Boys' Soccer team dropped a tough one to Shevchenko on Monday before tying RVS 5-5 to finish their season on Wednesday afternoon. Volleyball The varsity boys volleyball squad travelled to the Raiders Varsity Volleyball Tournament in Roblin this past week. The boys played 5 matches and ended up losing their quarter-final matchup to the host Goose Lake Raiders 17-15 in the 3rd set. The team played well and showed many signs of good things to come! The first league action for the Varsity Boys is this Thursday in Miami against the Marlins. Go Mavs! The varsity girls headed to Somerset on Thursday and Friday for Prairie Mountain’s tournament. It was a ‘learning’ tournament, with many girls trying new positions and roles, and we finished 7th out of 9 teams. League games start next week with our Mavs on the road. The Junior Varsity Girls travel to RVS on Wednesday while the Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys head to Miami on Thursday. Hockey Our Mavs practice on Monday and Tuesday in preparation for their first exhibition game on Wednesday vs. Steinbach at 4:30.a robots in grade 7/8 techThe Grade 7/8 technology class wrapped up their Coding and Robotics units with the Dash robots this week. Students worked through a number of coding challenges in groups and individually and also got to use a number of accessories that unlock more features.
morris robotics club seeking toolsThe Morris Robotics Team is looking to start building robots to prepare for the Manitoba Robot Games. As a new team, we are hoping to get some tools necessary for building, modifying, and repairing robots as they fight in the ring.
