Today we had a special guest join all three of our 1/2 classes in a Google Meet to teach us more about them. Our classes compiled a list of questions prior to the presentation and had over 40 students participate in the Google Meet. Thank you to Mrs. Cheryl Crick and family for joining us with her two parrots, Monty and Rhubarb. Cheryl told us many stories about her parrots and taught us a lot of great information. She is extremely knowledgeable about the habits and care of parrots. Our students enjoyed learning about them, watching them eat a Dorito chip, dance, sing and play with their favorite toys. It was a great way to wrap up our unit on Parrots. vaccination informationA hunting we will go...During remote learning, the Morris School Gr. 5-12 Phys. However, we took a quick pivot last week and Morris School was forced to adapt and adjust again! As we experienced rising case numbers in and around our community, our school was also affected. On Friday last week, we made the tough decision to start remote learning for K-4 students on Monday. Shortly after, the Red River Valley School Division announced our entire division would go to remote learning on Tuesday. That lead to a bit of confusion (multiple emails sent to parents, etc.), but we worked it out and our students flexed and adapted again. We want to thank all of our students and their families for their patience, flexibility, and questions over the last week. We THINK we've got things going fairly smoothly. We also want to recognize our staff for their quick transition to remote learning and their willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure our students have what they need to succeed at this time in their educational careers. It's been a year to remember. We hope to see all of our students soon, but thank you for making this week work! Manitoba has given YFC-Morris grants to hire two youth at $12/hour, 15 hours/week for 4 months. We’re looking for two youth who are 15 or older who love working with their hands and being outside. The hours can fluctuate from week to week and month to month, so a student could end up working less than 15 hours/week in May/June while they are still in school and more than that in July/August. food drive extended! Keep the food coming! We are grateful to all those students and members of our school community who have donated to our school's food drive. Please consider sending some more non-perishable food items on Monday as we wrap up the initiative on May 10. Highway 23 construction - coming soonFor those who frequent the south side of Morris School, you may have noticed some flags and other things popping up along 23 Highway. The plan is for construction to start soon on the stretch of road that parallels the school. That will have an effect on people's ability to park, drop off or pick up their students along 23. Be ready to use an alternate route, drop off, parking spot, etc. when the road construction is in full swing. We've been assured that two lanes will remain (they will be using north shoulder of 23 highway as a westbound lane) until the end of the school year and that buses will be able turn into our school. future robotic engineers at work!Grade 1/2 has been participating in a Robot-themed inquiry this month. Students in all three classes have had the opportunity to program the Dash and Dot Robots provided by the Red River Valley School Division which allowed them to explore beginning coding. Students have learned about some of the important jobs robots perform for humans and the characteristics of the materials used to create robots (and other objects). They then used this knowledge to design and create their own robots built from recycled materials. The creativity and ingenuity shown by the students was amazing! Grade 1/2 also wrote fictional stories based on robot characters they created and finally they participated in making robot string art. We can't wait to see what they create in the future! Way to go, MAV's! world math day celebrated at Morris SchoolWorld Maths Day is an international celebration of mathematics coordinated by 3P Learning (the makers of Mathletics...the app used by a number of students at Morris School).
