dress for the weatherAlthough we have experienced some good weather this fall, temperatures are dipping below zero at night/early morning. Combine that with the fact that we have staggered entry times, we encourage all of our students to arrive just prior to your entry time IF possible and/or dress warmly if you are waiting outside for any period of time. screening sick studentsMaverick families, we need your help! We are getting into cold and flu season and of course, we are still dealing with COVID-19 in our communities. We know that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people can spread covid which can lead to severe consequences for our students, staff, friends and loved ones. To help our community area and students/staff stay healthy and continue with in school learning, we ask that you please screen your children, even the teenagers, every day. And, we kindly ask that you keep sick students home. See the chart and Southern Health Requirements as of Oct. 15 for more info on symptoms and next steps. If your children have to be home sick, please enter it into the Safe Arrival. You can email their teachers for work if needed or simply email or call the office and we can contact you to help with that. Work can be emailed, etc. Students who are attending school sick can spread illness to others and then those families in turn, are taking time off or getting their children tested. If we can help prevent some of that, that is a true act of kindness! IF you are unsure of next steps if your child is sick, please call Health Links: 1-888-315-9257 or 788-8200 OR the school to speak with Mike or Corinna in Administration. We are happy to help; we are all in this together. Thank you! movember has arrived!November is a month with a bad reputation as being the first month of winter; the start of cold. But November also lends itself to a positive trend...an uplifting trend...a slightly (or significantly) hairier trend. This year, Morris School is creating a Movember page for our staff and students who wish to grow a moustache/beard for charity to raise awareness and funds for cancer affecting men more frequently (Prostate and Testicular) and Male Suicide Prevention services. If you wish to participate, email Mr. Antoski at [email protected] so he can add you to the Morris School team. If you wish to donate, follow this link: https://ca.movember.com/donate/details?teamId=2407042 and donate as much as you would like! Way to Go, MAV's! access classroom - day of the dead!Have you heard of Dia de los Muertos? The Day of the Dead celebrates life by remembering those who have died. It is mostly celebrated in Mexico and Latin America on November 1 and 2. It is becoming increasingly popular in the United States and has become even more mainstream since the release of the Disney-Pixar movie “Coco”, in 2017. The Access class traveled virtually to Mexico and learned the history and traditions of the Day of the Dead. We decorated different types of sugar skulls and made an ofrenda. It was a fun, immersive experience and the students loved the fresh empanadas, chips, homemade salsa, Mexican hot chocolate and conchas (sweet buns). Even our puzzle was finished just in time.
