A place where they could keep our targets, bows, quivers, arrows, etc set-up permanently...MR. LES DYCK TO THE RESCUE! Mr. Dyck helped clear out a large area of the basement, he helped put up a safety net to corral arrows that miss the targets, and he provided spray paint and other material for the final touches of the Archery Area. She and her colleagues introduced our students to CareersLabVR. Students could choose from a variety of hands on careers and our students chose nursing, farm labourer, mechanic, and heavy machine operator. It was a great experience for all, especially the ones that got to explore the career with the VR technology. Music/Band fundraiser - poinsettia pick upPoinsettia Fundraiser Pick Up: For those who participated in the music/band poinsettia fundraiser, pick up will be on Monday, December 5 from 4:00-5:30 pm at the south theatre doors in the bus loop. Students/parents who sold poinsettias are responsible for picking up all of their orders for their buyers. Thank you for supporting the Morris School Music and Band Program! our band students benefit from talented guest!Low Brass Workshop: The 6-12 band students had the incredible opportunity to work with Dr. Aaron Wilson, Low Brass Professor at the Brandon University School of Music, this past Thursday throughout the day. All of our trombone, euphonium, tuba, and even some trumpet students got to learn from and listen to Dr. Wilson play. They learned about many important fundamentals like breath support, tone, technique, and more. Awesome work, musicians! maverick athletics updateVolleyball is not over yet!! Maverick's JV and V Boys teams both have opportunities in the next week to qualify for provincials. Our Varsity Boys Volleyball team qualified for a regional tournament yesterday in Iles Des Chenes. They played Gab. Roy at 10:30, Boissevain at 1:30, and Elton at 3:30 (with the playoff round to follow). They had to finish in the top two to earn a spot at Provincials. Our JV Boys have qualified for a Wildcard game to be played against Virden on Tuesday at 6:00pm (game will take place in MacGregor). The winner of this game will qualify for JV Provincials. Grade 7/8 Volleyball: Our Maverick boys went 2-0 this week with wins over RVS and Oak Bluff. The girls dropped two close 5-set games to RVS and Oak Bluff. Both teams have their final game of the season this Tuesday at home vs. RVS (game time 4:00pm). JV/Varsity Boys Basketball is up and running! Please see Mr. Stevenson if you are interested in playing Mavericks Basketball this year. JV/Varsity Girls will be close behind with practices starting the last week of November. See Mrs. Kurylko for details. Mavericks Hockey: The boys defeated Morden 3-1 on Monday night and the Mountain Mustangs 4-0 on Friday. Next week they host Morden on Wednesday at 7:30 and head to Pembina on Saturday to play the Tigers at 11:00 am. Wrestling: Maverick Wrestling is back! Practices start this week. Interested students are all welcomed. A detailed letter about the program is available. Most interested students have received a copy of the letter. Email or see Mr. Watson personally if you'd like a copy of the letter or have questions. morris school welcomes artist in schoolThis year the artist in the school is Leanne Kehler. We would like to thank the Manitoba Arts Council for making this possible with joint funding with the school. Three days this week and next she is with kindergartens and grade 3-4s. She has been telling stories and helping us to learn to make still pictures with our bodies to tell the story. This is a new way of showing comprehension - physically vs verbally or written. It is show what you know. Next week we will be creating our own class stories using our bodies to explore ideas. All classes from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will have a chance to work with Leanne over the next two months. grade 10 home ec students - final projectGrade 10 Home Ec was currently starting on their final project for sewing. Some students have chosen to make hoodies. They are learning how to construct PDF patterns and then cut their fabric out of them. Comments are closed.
