Maverick spirit week is coming!congratulations Payton!Although this announcement appeared on our Instagram feed, we did not acknowledge a great accomplishment earned by Payton Leflar a few weeks ago. Payton has signed a letter of intent to attend and play volleyball at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Morris School is very proud to have another student-athlete commit to a U-Sport program! Congratulations Payton! Well Deserved! We wish you all the best! appreciated with bread! Our Morris School staff has been consistently surprised and grateful for what keeps showing up at our door!! Mrs. Joan van der Linde and her awesome initiative, The Bread Basket, has delivered multiple loaves of bread over the past few weeks. Her goal is to keep delivering until everyone on staff has an opportunity to taste her homemade loaf of bread. We want to thank Mrs. van der Linde for her appreciation of our staff, but more importantly, for what she has done with her talents to spread joy (and bread) through the Morris and surrounding areas over 1000 times! Mrs. van der Linde...Our school staff are grateful for the show of appreciation and for the joy you've brought to us! Thank you! Our band program is busy with a capital 'B'!Over the past few weeks our band program, led by Mrs. Zimmerman, has had some great experiences. From the learning opportunities from those who are masters at their craft to enjoying musical creation with students from other schools, to the upcoming band trip, to an outdoor performance on June 7th, the band is in full gear! We can't be anymore proud of this group of students or Mrs. Zimmerman! Way to Go, MAV's! MR. Zimmerman visits the school!! This past Wednesday, the music program brought in a special guest, Mr. Zimmerman, to work with our grade 5-12 rhythm section musicians here at Morris School! Mr. Zimmerman is a music educator, performer, and rhythm section specialist who brought a great deal of energy, knowledge and inspiration for a great day of workshops. Our students had a blast working with Mr. Z on guitar, bass, & drums. Professional Drummer Knocks on Our Door! The music program brought in professional drummer and music educator, Mr. Ben Roloff, on Thursday this week to teach our percussionists and drum set players some new skills! A variety of students from grades 5-12 had the chance to learn from Mr. Roloff, including concepts like snare drum technique, drum set fundamentals, and new drum set styles like latin and swing playing. Morris School Concert Band Joins with École Héritage! The Senior Concert Band from École Héritage Immersion School in St. Pierre joined the Morris Senior Concert Band for a fun filled day of music making this Friday. The students performed for each other, played a mass piece together, sight read band repertoire, and even played in a boomwhacker ensemble. It brought everyone great joy to get to play and interact with fellow musicians, make new relationships, and of course, eat pizza! our k-2's head out on their first ever field trip!Lions and tigers and bears, oh MY! Our K-2 students had a great time on their field trip to the Assiniboine Park Zoo. We learned about arctic animals with zoo program leaders and enjoyed experiencing our very first field trip! We want to thank our staff for organizing the trip, our bus drivers and the Division's Transportation Department for transporting our students, and of course, our students who received multiple compliments for how they conducted themselves on the trip! We hope you had a great time!?! We can't wait to see what your next field trip looks like! A former maverick shares her grad experienceCongratulations to a Maverick Alum, Ms. Cassandra Penner, for graduating from Brandon University with her Education Degree. The grade 3/4 class wishes her all the best in her teaching career. She was the best student teacher!! Ms. Martens' Grade 3/4 class watched the live stream of Ms. Penner convocation and were very engaged and proud to be part of her educational experience. It was amazing to watch their reaction. We wish Ms. Penner all the best as she pursues her first teaching role. get your hot dogs heeeeeerrrrrreeeeeee!maverick track & Field prepare for zone IV'sOn Thursday May 26th the Morris Mavericks track team competed at a track competition in Stonewall MB. Way to Go, MAV's! outdoor education = experience educationThe Outdoor Education class, hosted by Mr. Lehmann, keep experiencing new things and developing skills related to the outdoors. This week...knot tying and archery. Way to Go, MAV's! Knot Tying The students recently finished up their knot-tying unit. The students were to tie four different knots (the clove hitch, the truckers hitch, the Uni-to-Uni knot, and the square knot) in under eight (8) minutes! These knots will prove very useful to them on the upcoming camping trips. Outdoor Ed Hits the Target with Archery Recently in Outdoor Ed, the students have been learning about archery. They’ve learned theory aspects of archery such as the different parts of a bow and arrow, different types of bows, and what an ‘archers paradox’ and ‘anchor point’ are. They’ve also been able to put this knowledge to use and fire some arrows in the mezzanine. The students are quickly getting quite good! Here are some action shots and results.
