When
How to Get Started: Use the letter that was emailed to you from the school, explaining how you can connect with your child’s PowerSchool account via the Parent Portal. OR If you require assistance in setting up your account please contact Ms. Denny - at [email protected] To be clear, the PowerSchool Parent portal will be the only way our school will be distributing report cards on February 9th. So all families must create a PowerSchool account if they don't currently have one. Thank you for partnering with us on this exciting journey! january exams just days away! Our Grade 12 Applied Math students are next up! They will experience their version of the provincial exam this week (Tuesday, January 23). For the remaining students in high school, exams are just over a week away. We encourage all of our students who have exams to prepare well in advance, reach out to their teachers when they have questions, get some good sleep and eat well over the next few weeks. A well-prepared, well-rested student will do as well as they are supposed to do if they have done this. exam study tipsThe following excerpt from Kidshelphone.ca summarizes some very good tips for students preparing for exams... It’s common to feel stressed before taking a test, especially if you don’t feel prepared. Keeping up good study habits will help you remember things at test time so you can earn better grades. Here are some study tips to help you prepare for a test: 1. Start early: start studying several days before the test/exam. You’ll have more time to learn and remember what you need to know and the information will stay in your long-term memory for final exams. Cramming the night before will increase your stress and only puts the information in your short-term memory, so you’ll likely forget and have to relearn it at the end of the term. 2. Stay positive: remember that it’s within your ability to do well on the test/exam. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. 3. Set priorities: spend most of your study time on what’s most important for the test/exam. If you’re not sure what that is, ask your teacher. If your teacher has spent a lot of time on something in class, it’s probably important to know. 4. Make study sheets: try to summarize the main ideas in a few points. Make a single page of notes and review it several times. 5. Get help: ask your teacher to explain any material that you don’t understand. You can also ask a friend or classmate for help. 6. Go to the review class: many teachers review the important material during the class before a test or exam. It’s a good idea to attend and take as many notes as you can. This is also your chance to ask questions. Remember: study as best as you can and get a good night’s sleep before the exam! We wish all of our students well as they prepare. The team got to enjoy a demonstration of a variety of robots, from autonomous mini-sumo to the much larger 3 kg weight class. Congratulations to Cody Dueck who finished 2nd place in the tournament, no small feat considering Crystal Springs are the reigning provincial champions. Thanks to all the players for their efforts, and for the support from the community. On that note, the Robotics team would like to thank Sun Valley Co-Op for their very kind donation. GM Brad and his team had a chance to see part of the team in action and drop off a fantastic Milwaukee Packout Modular storage system for the team. This will be a big help for away matches. Stay tuned for more sponsorship and donation news. mavericks Athletic updateHockey The Mavs defeated Garden Valley 6-4 in a chippy game on Wednesday night. This Friday they head to Portage for a 2:30 start. With 3 league games left in the regular season, the Mavs currently sit tied for second place in the Zone 4 Hockey League. The Varsity Boys dropped a nailbiter to Rosenort 54-51 in their first league game of the season this week. This past weekend the Morris Maverick Varsity Boys team played three hard-fought games against strong opponents. Each game saw the team improve starting in the first game scoring 54 points against the former provincial champion Gab Roy team to 74 points in their final game against Powerview. Great effort!! Next week both Varsity teams travel to Westpark on Tuesday night to face the Royals (Girls at 6:00pm, Boys at 7:30). Both Grade 7/8 Girls' and Boys' teams have been practicing hard in preparation for their first league games this week when they host Starbuck on Wednesday.
