February is "I love to read" monthThis year in K-4 we are celebrating reading with the 7 sacred teachings theme. Each class has a goal for reading in the month of February. If they meet their goal, Mr. Watson will buy their classroom $100.00 worth of books from Scholastic Book Clubs. There is also a February Calendar (see below). The calendar has suggested activities that you can do at home with your child. If your child completes an activity, their name will be entered into a draw for a prize. Thanks for encouraging the love of reading! If you have been by the library lately, you will see that there is a contest going on for "I Love to Read" month. Grade 5/6 students from Mrs. Siemens' class have helped Mrs. DeKezel set up a "Guess Who" contest. Photos on the window show teachers reading. The catch is that you can only see the top of the staff member's head behind the book. Take a close look because there are clues in the titles of the books that will help you. Forms for entry are outside the library. Fill in your guesses from #1 to #16 and enter in the box provided for your chance to win a prize this month! Grades 5-8 - the challenge is on!!Attention Grades 5-8 students. Below you will find "I Love to Read" calendar challenge. If you complete one of the challenges you can show Mrs. Siemens or get their teacher to email her and then enter their name in the draw box (located in Mrs. Siemens' classroom) to win a prize. A prize winner will be drawn every week in February. The tournament of books! One of the activities for I LOVE TO READ MONTH is a BOOK TOURNAMENT! Eight books were chosen by staff members and will advance week by week, tournament style, until there are only two books left. Students will be introduced to the books live on the morning announcements and will vote for their favorite picture books throughout the month. Semester 2 starts MondayWith exams written for the first time in a while, Semester 1 comes to a close. Semester 2 starts on Monday, February 6. We've had to delay the submission of Semester 1 grades based on teacher feedback, so the PowerSchool portal has been locked until report cards can be generated. Lists of first period classes will be on display throughout the halls in the Senior Years' portion of the school. Staff will also be in the halls to assist with students locating their first period class. Once inside the class, your first period teacher will hand students a hard copy of their Semester 2 timetables. When PowerSchool is open again, we will let the school community know. When it is, we would encourage all Grades 9-12 students and their families to download the PowerSchool app if you have not done so already. The PowerSchool app will contain your second semester timetable. Timetable changes need to be arranged through Mrs. Edel and parents need to sign off on these changes before they are made. You can see your S2 (Semester 2) timetables in Powerschool when you log in on a computer. Go to My Schedule and select the Matrix View to view the entire year's schedule. textbook returnsNow that Semester 1 is complete, we would ask students to please return any textbooks, atlas and whatever else t received on LOAN from the school to complete their course work. We have other classes and students who will require them for the second semester, so please return your textbooks, etc. as soon as possible. Thank you to those students who have already done so. kindergarten registration 2023-24It's that time of year again! Kindergarten Registration is now open for the 2023/24 school year. Any donation moves us closer to that end gooal and the top of our thermometer. parent council informationWe were recently instructed by our school board to provide information to our school community regarding Parent Advisory Councils. The directive includes.. Morris School does not currently have a Parent Advisory Council (PAC), but we will do our best to provide information on the above items. (a) According to the Resource Guide for Manitoba’s Parent Advisory Councils, PACs are created for a reason, and it is important to discuss and decide together what that purpose will be within a school community. The Parent Advisory Council within a school has many functions and roles. Examining this purpose may lead to the development of your PAC mission statement. Some of the areas a PAC might work in include:
(c) Membership into the Morris School PAC include adults interested in the objectives of the PAC who are parents/guardians of children enrolled in the School. These individuals are entitled to and may become a member of the Parent Council upon being elected.
