Morris School Band Concert - WednesdayAs we announced in last two weekly blogs, Mrs. Penno is retiring. So...we have a chance to honour Mrs. Penno, while allowing our alumni to have some fun at the same time. Wednesday, June 5th will be Mrs. Penno's final Morris School Band Concert. As per last week's blog post, Mrs. Penno is inviting any of her former students to join in the performance of the Mass Band song at the June 5 Spring Concert. Please contact her to receive your music. What a great way to send Mrs. Penno off into her new chapter of life by having too many alumni wanting to play...we love good problems! SafeArrival updateWe are four weeks into using our new Safe Arrival Attendance Program. We want to thank you for your patience during this process as we iron out some minor issues with the way the system works. Thank you to those who have taken the time to sign up for the App to excuse their children when necessary. This process saves us a lot of time in the office. A note to you as parents on the process...The system starts by teachers taking attendance at the beginning of class. That information is transferred to the Safe Arrival System, where the front office staff pulls the information from that attendance information and sends home the notifications. If your child is late for class, they will be marked absent, you will get a phone call. We have put a process in place where if a student is late, they must check into the office, get a late slip and bring it to the teacher. This is so we can account for the students that are in the building. The phone call will still go home until the child checks into the office, then they will be entered as late into the system, which means you will then get a notification that your child was late. If you have any questions or are having issues getting logged into the School Messenger App, please call (204-746-2612 ext. 3222 or email lkeck@rrvsd. K-2 head to the zoo!Our K-2's traveled into Winnipeg on Friday to take in the Assiniboine Park Zoo experience. For some of our students, the bus trip in was their first ride on a bus! They were able to spend a full day enjoying all the animals on display, including the new Stingray exhibit. Another active learning experience for our young Mavericks! We would like to thank all of our K-2 teaching and support staff as well as the parent volunteers who made this trip possible. Grade 1/2's developing positive relationshipsThis week our Grade 1/2 classes took a walk to visit our local RCMP detachment. The students learned a great deal about the role of the RCMP and got to meet two constables from the detachment who help to serve our community. The Grade 1/2 classes would like to thank Constable Kuz and Constable Dahl for giving us a tour of the RCMP Morris Detachment. Our Mavericks had a great time and learned a lot. Our PAC is at it again...K-6 hot lunch this week!Grade 3/4's Plant & Soil UnitThe Grade 3/4’s took part in the next step of their Plants and Soil Science unit. The active learning project was started just after spring break. The weather has finally cooperated and the students were able to plant their “creations” outside. Now the Life Skills Class will team with the 3/4’s to bring the plants through to harvest. Grad 2019 Information Meeting - June 6Canadian History comes alive! The Grade 11 Canadian History class followed former Morris Maverick Sabrina Janke on a tour of the Historic Exchange District in Winnipeg. The events and people of the Winnipeg General Strike were brought to life for us through Sabrina’s storytelling and Winnipeg’s historic buildings. Thanks, Sabrina! The tour took the class through the Historic Exchange District, visiting locations such as Old Market Square, Ashdown Hardware and Pantages Playhouse. We heard about significant people involved in the Winnipeg General Strike, including Helen Armstrong, JS Woodsworth, and AJ Andrews.
