That time of the year...!!Strong Beginnings for the 2019-20 school yearStrong Beginnings is an assessment that occurs early in September for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. On Friday, September 13 and Monday, September 16, 2019, all students will attend school by appointment for approximately 60 minutes to participate in assessment activities. The appointments on these days replace regular classes. This is an opportunity for teachers to extend and consolidate their understanding of each child in order to plan for instruction. This, in turn, will effectively address unique learning needs as early as possible in the new school year. The appointments will be booked using our Conference Manager software. This software is the same online tool we used this past year to book our parent-teacher interviews. I would ask all parents to book your Strong Beginnings appointments as soon as you learn your child(ren)'s teacher for the upcoming school year. This will occur on the day your student(s) receive their June report card. ALL students must book an appointment as this is a MANDATORY session. Please call the school office if you have questions. BAnd Concert celebrates the arts & mrs. Penno!Morris School hosted our annual Grades 6-12 band concert. What a great way to wrap up Mrs. Penno’s 23rd and final year at Morris School. Eight-six current Mavericks and 18 alumni combined to give the show of the year. The concert ended with some reflections from Mrs. Penno on her teaching career as well as some presentations and thank you's to Mrs. Penno. Morris School would like to thanks Mrs. Penno for her dedication to our school. We wish her all the best in your retirement! PAC hot lunch: June 10 & 18 - Spaghetti & perogiesGrad 2019 Information (a link and a timeline)The school hosted a Grad information meeting this past week. Youth in Philanthropy updateOur Youth In Philanthropy group presented three grants to local organizations at the Morris and Area Foundation annual meeting this week. The group is proud to assist the Morris Museum, the Youth for Christ Centre, and Morris Minor Baseball. Thank you to our students and the Morris and Area Foundation for the opportunity. Mavericks hit the beach - the sequel! The Maverick Beach Volleyball club was in action again this past Friday at the Junior High Championships. Morris has 2 teams competing in the grade 9 division. Despite some unfortunate scheduling, putting both Morris teams in the same pool, they played through it and managed to finish 1st and 2nd in their pool and both advanced to the championship side. The team of Zach, Chloe, and Abby lost a close game in the first round of playoffs to end their day. Overall they were 2-2. The other Maverick team, consisting of Amy, Payton, and Andrew, continued their strong play(winning 5 straight games) and advanced to the semi-finals before being beat by a strong Selkirk team. The wind had picked up, and the Mavericks struggled to adjust to the conditions after switching sides. After a short break, and a little strategy meeting, the group went on to crush the competition in the 3rd place game 22-13. Special thanks to Mrs. Roberts for the coaching and encouragement she provided to our athletes this season. Mavericks throw around in WinnipegThree Maverick throwers participated in the 2019 MHSAA Provincial Track and Field Championships this week at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Alexa B. competed in the shot put and javelin events. She placed 27th and 29th respectively. Christina N placed 14th in the shot put and the 18th in the discus. Manuel K. reached the top 10 in the province in both of his events by placing 8th in the shot put and 5th in the discuss. Congratulations to all three Mavericks for representing the Mavericks and Zone IV against all the top athletes in the province. Thank you to Mrs. K and all the coaches for assisting our track and field athletes this year. The track season is still going strong as the Grades 6-8 students compete at the Divisional meet on Wednesday. Good luck to all Mavericks! 8/1/2022 03:13:40 am
