This week in February "I love to Read Month"speaking of "I Love to read"...Some members of our Senior Kids Caring for Kids Students "headed on down" to the Early Years end of Morris School this past week and shared a reading experience with Mrs. Blanchette's Grade 1/2 class. A great time was had by all. Our Vocational Programs are in the news...The Morris School Autobody and Welding programs were highlighted this week in the pembinavalleyonline news. K-6 students can buy a hot chocolate for $1 and help provide clean water to an impoverished village in a developing country. Mavs Create Change will bring the hot chocolate to each K-6 classroom during lunch hour. Mavericks Athletics...We had some cold weather this past week, but that didn't slow down our Mavericks! Girls Basketball Despite the cold and cancellation of their tournament, the Varsity Girls still managed to get in two games this week. The girls went 1-1 this week losing to Carman on Tuesday night, and beating RVS Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks have now moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the league. This week brings plenty more action with the JVG taking on Carman twice, playing at Carman on Monday, and at home on Wednesday. The Varsity Girls are travelling to MCI on Tuesday, and hosting their own tournament on the weekend. First game is 12 noon against GVS. Boys Basketball The boys played in Carman on Wednesday and despite coming out second best had an excellent game against the tough Carman squad. They were able to partially contain the potent Carman fast break as well as penetrate the key and collect rebounds on a regular basis. The boys have a tournament in Carman this weekend. The first game is Friday at 4PM versus Gimli, and they will play two games on Saturday. Next week they practice on Tuesday and host Carman on Wednesday. Hockey The #1 ranked Maverick hockey team inched closer to the Zone 4 playoffs by completing their final two regular season games this past week. The first game was a come from behind victory against the Mountain Mustangs on Thursday. Justin Keck lead the Mavericks with a hat trick. Ryan Coulombe got the win in net. On Friday, the Mavericks suffered one of the few losses of the season in the form of a shootout loss to the Garden Valley Zodiacs. The Mavericks now turn their focus to the playoffs with their first game being played on Tuesday in Morris. Game time is 8:00 pm. Wrestling The Maverick Wrestlers will continue to work this week in preparation for their tournament on the weekend at Edmund Partridge in Winnipeg. All interested wrestlers need to see Mr. Watson by Wednesday if they would like to attend. Comments are closed.
