Creedence was the lucky winner of the Scholastic Book Fair prize allowing him to pick items for himself and for his classmates. He made some excellent choices! Thank you to everyone for participating in the book fair! robotics updateThe Robotics Team played its final match of the year on the road at Niverville High School. Niverville finished with an even number of wins and losses in the round-robin, with congratulations going to Sam Storck and Hassaan Mustafa for both finishing undefeated! In the Battle Royale finale, Cody Dueck was victorious for grades 7&8, with Josh Hildebrandt winning for grades 9 and up. Thanks to everyone from the players, to sponsors, donors, and parent volunteers for all their contributions this year! Hope to see all robots back in the ring next year. badminton updateThe JV badminton team attended 2 tournaments this past week. On Wednesday they headed to St. Jean. Oscar Imade had the highest finish for the Mavs, losing in the semi-finals. The girls' doubles teams of Isabelle Gross/Natalie Levasseur and Sam Storck/Ally Sawatsky both lost in the quarter-finals. On Thursday the squad travelled to Carman. On the way to Carman, Mr. Watson's reliable Honda got a flat tire just west of Kane. That is when the pit crew (aka Les Dyck) sprung into action! Les saved the day with not only a tire iron and a jack but a new tire as well! Mr. Dyck's bid to be tournament MVP came up just short however as several Mavericks advanced to the playoffs. Erin Hamblin lost her quarter-final match to the eventual silver medalist in girls' singles. The mixed team of Brooklyn Williamson/Garland Labauza as well as the girls' doubles team of Ally Sawatsky/Sam Storck both lost in the quarter-finals. Jenna Sabourin was the top Maverick performer on the day making it all the way to the finals where she lost a tight battle, 21-18. Next week is the regional playoffs and zone playoffs for those who qualify. The JV regionals are on Monday in Carman and the Varsity regionals are in Portage on Tuesday. Good luck Mavs! mavs' flag football experience first taste of...Defeat! Making history isn’t always easy.
