Let's try this again...We don't quit on Terry! Our K-4 & Grades 5-8 Terry Fox events planned for this past Friday are set to be completed on Monday, October 18th. The K-4 will take place in the afternoon (K-2 first then 3/4's). Our Grades 5-8 are taking their walk/run to the streets in Morris (carefully navigating them). Good luck to all involved. Thank you to the staff who have put in the work to plan this event and to all the students who have fundraised on behalf of Terry Fox and Cancer research. construction making it a bit chaoticWith our bus loop being out of commission over the past few weeks, we appreciate everyone's patience as we have changed location of our bus loop, reduced the number of parking spaces, etc., etc. We see the majority of you understanding the dilemma we are currently faced with and you are being kind and gracious with your driving during drop off & pick up times! Thank you. A reminder to anyone dropping off or picking up students on Toronto Avenue...please DO NOT stop or park beyond the east end of the school building (in other words in the turnaround circle at the end of the street). By stopping in the circle, you make it difficult for anyone to turn their vehicle around smoothly. It creates a congestion that could easily be avoided. intramurals goes indoors!

We've had no fewer than nine teams up and running in soccer, volleyball, and hockey so far this year and they are all being coached by dedicated staff and volunteer coaches (a number of alumni included in that group...a sign of a great school is alumni wanting to come back to their old school and give back...but I digress). Here's a bit of information and recaps of the action from this past week. Varsity Boys Volleyball - The varsity boys volleyball team played 2 matches this past week. They won a nail biter in Carman on Tuesday winning 3-2 and lost to a strong Rosenort squad on Thursday. Check out the live stream on Tuesday to catch their rematch against Carman. Varsity Girls Volleyball - The varsity girls hosted a 9 team tournament this past weekend. Coach Lehmann has the girls working hard and that showed on Friday with two victories over Roseau Valley and MCI. The girls finished their round robin pool on Saturday in second place. That put them up against the eventual champions, the Landmark 96'ers. The girls were able to take a set off Landmark, but couldn't finish the deal, losing 16-14 in the third and deciding set. That put them in the third place game against the Redhawks of Rosenort. The girls, once again, fought hard to take it to three sets, but lost to Rosenort 15-11 in the third. The girls showed a great deal of promise. We look forward to seeing how they progress through their season. Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball - Our JV Boys lost 3 straight in their home opener this past week. Despite the straight sets loss, it was a hard fought battle. A great deal of team spirit and growth is being experienced in every game. It was the first time this season that all of our players together in our home opener. The next game is Tuesday October, 19th vs Carman. Thank you to the parents, volunteers, and referee that helped make the game possible. Watch us on the LIVE stream for home games. The roster for this year's team includes...
Grade 7/8 Volleyball - 7/8 Volleyball finally got to return this past week as they headed to Rosenort. The excitement and enthusiasm from the players was infectious. Both teams played great, with a lot of learning and improvement. This week our teams are headed to Lowe Farm (Thursday). Varsity Soccer - The girls played for the Zone IV Championship this week in varsity soccer. A hard fought and close match end with Sanford taking the Zone IV crown. Congratulations to the girls for their growth and for making it so far in what is one of the shortest seasons in school sport. Thank you to Mrs. Skoglund and Ms. Thiessen for coaching the girls this season. Varsity Hockey - The Maverick Hockey season began quickly! After a great exhibition game against the Miller Aces, the program hosted their annual Invitational Six-Team Tournament. The competition was fierce, but our Mavericks improved in each and every game. Our young, but talented squad will learn from their coaches (Mr. Cory & Mr. Lehmann) and each other as they work to be a competitive force in the Zone IV hockey league. We want to thank all parent volunteers and Mrs. Keck & Mr. Clace for assisting in making the tournament a remarkable success. Congratulations to the Selkirk Royals for capturing the team title after defeating the Steinbach Sabres in the final. Good luck to all students who are testing this week! K-12 spirit week - coming soonWith everyone in school, we are excited to host our first ALL-SCHOOL Spirit Week during the week of October 25-29. You've got time to plan, so be prepared for the following themed days...
Prizes will be awarded within each cohort...the Student Leadership Group is even planning to present awards to our most spirited staff! What fun we will have!! Mr. Stevenson's class sending a message!Mr. Stevenson's 7/8 class have been working on "propaganda posters." They have been looking at examples of war-time propaganda and learning about how messages can be created to influence people. This often happened in one of two ways: the target audience would be portrayed as "heroes" if they behaved in a certain way, or enemies would be portrayed as frightening or monstrous.
