Student Leadership executive electedThis past week our Student Leadership team went through the election process to name their executive for the upcoming school year. We want to thank each student team who had the courage to put themselves out there as they allowed their names to be put forward as candidates. grade 3/4's head to the corn mazeAfter a year or more without field trips, our Grade 3/4's were excited to head to "A Maze in Corn" on Thursday. The students enjoyed horse & wagon rides, a petting zoo, team building games, climbing the bale pyramid, and obviously, the corn maze! By all accounts, fun was had by all. This morning, our Grade 3/4's were recalling their experience with a discussion and writing assignment. Way to go, MAV's! JV Volleyball girls host this week!The JV girls Volleyball team had their first league game on Wednesday vs Elm Creek. The girls played very well! It was a nail biter as the match went to the fifth set where the Mavericks gave it their all, but lost 17-15. We'll get them next time, Mav's! maverick hockey hits the ice!With the recent retirement of long time coach, Barry Lewis, our new look Maverick Hockey team begins their 2021-22 season under new leadership after over a year away from High School Hockey. Coach Seth Cory takes over the squad after spending a year as an assistant coach under Coach Lewis. The team is excited to get started tonight as they take on the Miller Aces in an exhibition game at the Morris Multiplex. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm. The Mavericks are also hosting a tournament next weekend. They next Friday at 7 pm against the Stonewall Rams. They get going again on Saturday with a game against the Steinbach Sabres at 5 pm. The Maverick home opener is set for Wednesday, November 7 against the Pembina Tigers. Puck drop to the home opener is 7:30 pm. The Morris Multiplex is allowing fans based on the following protocols. All fans ages 12 & up need to be fully vaccinated. No fans will be able to enter without the proof of vaccination. Maverick fans will be allowed in the rink just prior to puck drop, so expect to wait if you arrive early to the game. Once inside, masks must be worn at all times. Fans must sit in a section labeled for Home Fans. Fans are no longer allowed to hang around the boards at ice level, they must sit in the Home Fan section. Fans are asked to Fans must leave immediately following the game. Our Mavericks are eagerly awaiting the chance to compete and we hope that you take advantage of the opportunity to watch them play. If you are unable to attend the game in person, the school is planning to live stream all Maverick games. This week in mav's athletics!Next week is jammed packed with Maverick Athletics Action! On Tuesday the girls' soccer team travels to Sanford for the League semi finals. Our Maverick Boys' soccer had a great season, finishing in a 3 way tie for 3rd place in the regular season. Because of tie breaker rules they just missed out on playoffs. Tuesday the Varsity boys travel to Carman. Wednesday the JV and Varsity girls host St. Pauls. Thursday the JV and Varsity boys head to Rosenort and JV and V girls travel to Dominion City to play RVS Next weekend (October 15 & 16) the Varsity Girls host a 10 team volleyball tournament here in Morris. Good luck, MAV's! another bi-weekly raffle draw approaching!Our Community's Outdoor Court Project is gearing up for another weekly draw for it's 50/50 Raffle. The draw will occur Wednesday, October 13 at 9 am. That allows you to purchase tickets up to 11:59 pm on Tuesday, October 14th. All raffle proceeds will go to the Outdoor Courts Expansion Project being planned at Morris School. Please consider purchasing a raffle ticket (1 for $5; 3 for $10; 10 for $20; 50 for $50). You are allowed to purchase tickets for each bi-weekly draw. A portion of each ticket sale will be saved for the final jackpot draw in March. You may also want to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the project. If you would like to consider a donation, please make your cheque payable to Morris School and a donation receipt from the Red River Valley School Division will be sent to you. Thank you, in advance, for your support of this project. k-4 terry fox run is set for next weekMorris School is planning to host its own version of the Terry Fox Run for the 25th year. Our K-4 students have been introduced to the concept of the Terry Fox Run, its purpose, and why it's important to support the cause by doing their best to raise money and take part by actually living a moment of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope. They will be running their own COVID-friendly Terry Fox Run on Friday, October 15 on the school grounds. We encourage all of our school community to consider donating to our run. grades 5-8 supporting terry fox run!Grade 5/6's go geocachinig!For the past week, the Gr. 5 / 6 phys. ed. classes have been engaging in Geocaching around the town of Morris. They managed to find 6 different caches by the end of the week. Congratulations to Anton B and Yzobelle N. who found 'Travelling Geocaches', and now have the job of hiding those caches in new spots!
