The teacher deadline for grades are Monday, November 14th. It will take a day or so to ensure all the reports card data was captured properly and then they can be sent to our families. Expect them this week via email closer to the end of the week. In order to ensure an efficient process, please be sure the school has your current email address. For families of Kindergarten students, you will not receive November report cards. We encourage all families to receive updates at the upcoming Parent-Teacher conferences (November 24th & 25th). If you need to update your email address or have not received the emailed report cards by Monday, November 21st, please call the office at 204-746-2612 or email Ms. Denny at [email protected] parent-teacher conferences - november 24/25Our first set of Parent/Teacher Conferences are set for Thursday, November 24 (4-8 pm) and Friday, November 25 (9 am - noon). You can access the Conference Manager software by clicking [here]. You must book by 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 23. You can start booking appointments Wednesday, November 16th at 7:00 am. We will be offering face-to-face, virtual (via Google Meet) or phone call options for your parent-teacher conferences. This round of Parent-Teacher Conferences allows you to schedule all three types of conferences with your student's classroom or subject area teacher. All bookings by default are face to face interviews. If you wish to meet virtually or by phone with the teacher, please enter “Virtual (OR Phone) conference please” in the PARENT COMMENTS field when booking your appointment. No comment indicates a face to face interview. Please note if you opt to attend by phone or virtually, the appointment confirmation email will still refer to the conference as being face to face. More information to come! morris school's first day camp a success!DAY CAMP FUNDRAISER: On the November 10th inservice, some of the Varsity Girls Volleyball team hosted a fundraiser for parents to drop off their gr. k-4 age student at Morris School for the day. The kids were able to do arts and crafts, play in the big gym, make rice crispy squares, do puzzles and games, and much more. If you are interested in signing your kid up for a DAY CAMP on November 25th at the price of $30 / kid/ day, please fill out the following google form. The students chose which table to sit at and got "served" five novels for their book tasting. They looked at their menu and reflected on each one after reading a few pages. They discussed what they liked, and did not like from the way the book looked to what they read. At the end of each "course" they rated the books out of 5 spoons. After they finished all 5 books we tallied up the votes to see which book we will be reading next in our novel study. 5/6's remembrance day artMr. Moore's 5/6 class worked in some timely Remembrance Day Poetry and Art this past week. Way to Go, MAV's! mavericks athletics updateVarsity Volleyball: A season full of progress and obstacles ended for both the Varsity Girls and Boys volleyball teams this week. Both teams had finished 3rd in the Zone and qualified for the Semi-Final in Elie against St. Pauls. Both teams fought hard through injury and illness, but unfortunately came up short. Congratulations to both teams on a great season! Thank you to the coaches for your commitment to your players throughout the year. JV Volleyball: The JV Girls defeated Sanford in an exhibition game on Wednesday. Both teams compete in the Zone tournament this Tuesday (Boys in Rosenort, Girls in Vita). Good luck Mavericks! Grade 7/8 Volleyball: both teams hosted their first league game this week. They welcomed Rosenort and competed hard in two very close games. Both the girls and boys games lasted 5 sets, with Morris coming up short in the 5th set. Both teams travel to RVS to play the Raiders on Tuesday and then host Oak Bluff here in Morris on Wednesday. Basketball: Gr 9-12 Boys Basketball will start this week! Practice this week will be Tuesday at 3:30pm and Thursday at 5:30pm. If you are interested in playing high school basketball this season you should be attending these practices. If you are unable to attend please let Mr. Stevenson know. Hockey: The MAVs hosted the CNMPMT Tigers on Wednesday, losing in a close one 3-2. Next week they travel to Morden on Monday (game time 7:30) and host Mountain on Friday (game time 8:00pm). Wrestling: First practices will begin Monday, November 21st. Junior MAV's (K-6) will practice Monday from 3:30 - 4:15. Senior MAV's from 4:15 - 5:30. We will meet in the mezzanine level of the gym. Practices will run Monday, Wednesday, & Friday each week. A full schedule will be provided once the tournament schedule has been drafted by the provincial association. access classroom updateWho Are You? The Access class continued their exploration of identity with an adapted Alice in Wonderland novel study. Students compared the story to previous readings, wrote Bio Poems and made personal collages. They wrapped up the unit with a Wonderland inspired tea party. Our wonderful students and staff also worked this past week to commemorate those who fought for our freedoms! Way to Go, MAV's! mav's attend discovery daysA number of our Senior Years' students used their 'day off' on Thursday to attend Discovery Days at the University of Manitoba. The students experiences were incredible from looking at the human brain, to exploring careers in biosystems engineering, dental hygiene, family medicine, nutrition, occupational therapy, etc. student leadership group hosting a dance!The high school student leadership group is excited to be hosting a grade 9-12 dance on Thursday, November 24. More information will be sent out on Monday. A sign up and information table will be in front of the library during lunch hour this week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please let Mrs Edel know if you have any questions. grade 10 geography mining simulationGrade 10 Geo started their new unit last week on Natural Resources. They are currently looking at the importance of mining for our economy and the issues mining companies face with environmental issues from mining. The grade 10s got to practise their mining skills on Chocolate chip cookies! They learned how messy and time consuming mining actually can be. gr 9 home ec working hone their sewing skills Grade 9 Home Ec are getting started on their finally projects for their sewing portion of the course.
