Our "How To" document can be found here Remembrance Day AssemblyMorris School hosted our annual Remembrance Day Assembly on Thursday. Our school had the pleasure of hosting members of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Cadet corps, and Trooper Reynolds from the Fort Garry Horse reserves. Trooper Reynolds spoke about the 100th anniversary of Canada's Hundred Days and the Armistice and what it must have been like for the soldiers who served our country at the time. He also helped our students understand what it's like to currently serve our country in the Armed Forces. We would like to thank our Senior Concert Band students, led by Mrs. Penno, our community members for making our assembly a part of their day, and to our students for showing an amazing level of respect for the assembly and the Canadian men and women who have and continue to serve in the Armed Forces. We will remember them! Varsity Girls capture zone Iv titleCongratulations to the Varsity Girls' Volleyball team for capturing the Zone IV title with a victory over Carman. The girls will now prepare for a Provincial Championships qualifier process in the near future. Way to go, MAV's! Cookies for caring in support of Urijah DyckAs some of you have heard, one of our Kindergarten students, Urijah Dyck, has been diagnosed with leukaemia. While this is sad and serious news, you will be encouraged to learn that this is a very treatable illness. Urijah’s doctors are hopeful he will make a full recovery. Urijah is not able to attend school at this time but hopes to return later. Of course cancer is not contagious. Our guidance counsellors have made themselves available for students who are struggling with or have questions about Urijah’s recent diagnosis. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please call Mr. Watson if you have any questions or concerns. Almost immediately after hearing this news, we had a group of Grade 3/4 students approach the school to conduct a fundraiser to support Urijah’s family. “Cookies for Caring” has arrived on the scene with the goal of showing our school community’s support for Urijah and his family. The information below provides the details you would need to show your support, either as a baker of cookies or a purchaser. MOrris School Hosting ProvincialsMorris School will host the 2018-19 MHSAA AA Junior Varsity Girls' Volleyball Championships from Thursday, November 22 to Saturday, November 24. Twelve teams from across the province will participate in the three-day event. Although we are proud to host this event, it will affect our Grade 7-12 programming on the opening day of the tournament (Thursday, November 22). Our Senior High classrooms will be used to host our visiting teams throughout the weekend. This will make it difficult to conduct regular classes on Thursday. Understanding that, Grade 7-12 students attending school on Thursday, November 22 will sign in at a table just outside the library and then be assigned a volunteer duty to assist in delivering a quality experience for our visiting student-athletes. Those students who choose not to attend school on Thursday, November 22 will be assigned an excused absence. Students from Kindergarten through to Grade 6 as well as our Access and Alternative students will have regularly scheduled classes. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Watson. We wish all teams participating in the tournament the best of luck. Go MAV's! Vocational program in the news...Pembina Valley Online highlighted the Red River Technical Vocational Area (RRTVA) this week in the news. Our own Auto Body and Welding programs are an important part of the RRTVA. The students in our two programs are benefitting from quality instruction and hands on learning each and everyday! We don't need an article in the paper to acknowledge their work, but it's nice to see their work promoted. Congratulations. Article can be found here
