Curling team is rocking!!Our grade 9 curling team consisting of; Andrew Penner, Ethan Brandt, Adam Friesen, Avery Skog and Zachary Norris (in order as pictured) began their fall bonspiels on November 17th and 18th with an exciting 1st place finish in the Bantam Division at the Pembina Curling Club. The team went undefeated during their 6 games in the bonspiel. They then attended a High School Exhibition Bonspiel in Morden on Thursday November 22nd where they won 1 game and recorded 2 losses. This coming month, they curled at a U15 Cash Bonspiel in Morris on this weekend and went 2 and 1. The team will be looking ahead to the Eastern Regional High School Bonspiel on December 14th at the Morris Curling Club. Welcome - Mehgan SmithAlthough the Morris School blog is extremely late with this welcome, we would like to welcome Mehgan Smith to our community. Mehgan is our new counsellor from the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba who works for the Red River Valley School Division. She works Tuesday, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s at Morris School. Her head office is located at Morris School. She provides confidential services in a safe and non-judgemental environment. She is available to anyone (youth and their families) who have concerns about their own alcohol, other drug use or gambling or anyone who is affected by someone else’s use. She is also available if you have any questions or if you are curious to learn about a specific substance or gambling. The Addictions Foundation provides facts and evidence based information, prevention and education and one to one counselling services. Please call, email or drop by to see her in person. Mehgan would also like to share that the Addictions foundation recently launched the 2019 AFM Youth Video Contest: “What Youth Need to Know about Substance Use and Gambling”. We would like to invite youth to capture what they think youth need to know about substance use and gambling by submitting their entry (video, poem, song, artwork etc...) in a 30 – 90 second video. Entries can be in any form but must be videotaped to be submitted online. Contestants have the opportunity to win merchandise credit of $500, $300 or $200 and bragging rights for themselves and their school or community group. A prize will also be awarded for the video with the Most Likes! All are welcome 12 Days of Christmas - school activitiesOur school's Student Leadership Group has proposed to celebrate the season by injecting a few school spirit activities into the month of December. Starting on Thursday, December 6th, our group will be hosting a Winter/Christmas event per day. Some of the activities will be grade group specific, so please read the following carefully. As always, participation is encouraged but optional. Winter BAnd Concert this week!Our Grades 5 - 12 band students will be displaying their talents at our annual Winter Band Concert on Wednesday, December 5th. We encourage all parents and Morris School community members to catch our young musicians perform. The performance will occur from 7-9 pm on the 5th. See you there! Diorama DAy with Mr. Moore's Gr 5/6'sThe Morris School Community would like to congratulate Mr. Moore's Grade 5/6 class for hosting a successful display of their Diorama Project. Students, parents, staff (including our division's superintendent and assistant superintendent) toured around Mr. Moore's class to view diorama's and interact with our creative students. Mavericks capture killarney tournament title!The Mavericks Hockey team captured the Killarney Tournament this weekend. The team went undefeated in three games, including the final game against the host team. Congratulations to the Mavericks! A Pirates' Christmas!Our K-4 students are working extremely hard with their teachers and peer leaders on their upcoming "A Pirate Christmas" performance. We hope to see a great turnout of community members to the performance on Thursday, December 13th. We will host two performances to accommodate your busy schedules.
